Ann Roberta Spencer, 79, of Natick passed away on January 16, 2024, at Marlborough Hills Healthcare Center in Marlborough after a lengthy illness.
Born in Binghamton, NY, the beloved daughter of Robert and Mary A. (Martiny) Spencer, Ann grew up in Endicott, N.Y., which was famous for being the home of I.B.M. at the time. After finishing high school, Ann went on to become a Nun with the Daughters of Charity Convent (they were known by the locals as the “Flying Nuns” due to their habit’s Cornette). Ann was educated at St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, MD earning her bachelor’s degree, she then went on to attend Bridgewater State College in Bridgewater, MA earning her master’s degree in education. She also attended St. John’s University, Boston College, and Fordham University completing additional coursework which covered counseling, administration, science, and computers.
Ann worked as a teacher at the Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral School in Utica, NY, St. Joseph’s School in Holbrook, MA, and Cathedral School in Syracuse, NY between 1976-1979. She also served as a school principal for St. Peter’s Cathedral School in Wilmington, DE, St. Catherine’s School in Elizabeth, NJ, Our Lady of Bedford-Stuyvesant School in Brooklyn, NY, and St. John’s School in Syracuse, NY.
After leaving the convent, Ann moved to Natick, MA to be closer to her twin sister Mary Spencer. She worked as a receptionist for Lonza Biologics, in Hopkinton, MA, then as an administrative assistant for Keystone Homecare in Natick, and then went on to work in the same capacity for the Elohim Religious School, in Wellesley Hills, MA. Ann retired from work as a circulation assistant at the Morse Institute Library, in Natick.
Ann is survived by her beloved twin sister, Mary Spencer, in Natick, and she will also be dearly missed by her family and many friends who considered her to be an angel.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 39 E. Central St., Natick, on Saturday, April 6, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
