Joanna Cowperthwaite Obituary

Joanna M. Cowperthwaite died on December 18, 2023 at Beaumont Skilled Nursing of Whitney Place in Natick. She was 89 years old. She was born and grew up in Hanover, NH.  She was the widow of William J. Cowperthwaite. They were married for 56 years, living in Norwell, MA and then Dover, NH. For most of the last 12 years, she has lived in Concord, MA.

Jo was a graduate of Radcliffe College, Class of 1956. She studied Music. All her adult life she enjoyed playing classical piano and singing in community choruses. During her time raising 3 children she completed an associate degree in nursing and worked as a geriatric nurse.  After retiring to Dover NH, she was active at her church, town events, and enjoyed summer trips to Bar Harbor ME.

She is survived by her children: daughters Margaret Bridge, of Belmont MA, Catherine Bledsoe, of Barrington RI, and a son W. Christopher Cowperthwaite, of Dover, MA, along with their spouses, as well as eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She also is survived by her brother: William H. McCarter Jr. of Winchester MA.

Plans for a memorial service are not available at this time.  Memorial donations may be made to an animal rescue shelter of your choice.
