John Edward Taylor, PhD. 72, died quietly in his sleep on April 19, 2019 in his home in Framingham, MA. He was born in Montpelier, ID in 1947 and moved to Pocatello with his parents, Jack and Enid Taylor (both deceased) and his sister, Jacqueline Taylor Voyles (husband, Bud Voyles) of Orem, UT, a few years later. He graduated from Pocatello High School in 1965, the highlight of which was being a member of the band that participated in the 1965 Rose Bowl Parade. He attended Idaho State University for two years during which time, in 1969, he met and married Barbara Streeper Taylor, also of Pocatello (Divorced in 2009). They relocated to Springville, UT where John attended Brigham Young University and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. He then attended University of the Pacific in Stockton, California and received his Ph.D. in Psychopharmacology after which he did a post-doctoral fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. They have four daughters, Janna Taylor (husband, Jim Carretta) of Beverly Hills, CA; Robyn Taylor Granda of Salt Lake City, UT; Liegh Taylor Acosta (husband, Patrick Acosta) of Winston-Salem, NC; and Stephanie Taylor of Petaluma, CA. He is also survived by nine grandchildren - Nancy Granda, Miguel Granda, Diana Granda Ortinez, Benjamin Granda, Marlon Granda, Jefferson Granda, Saige Bernier, Madeline Acosta, Nicholas Acosta and one greatgrandson, Joshua Granda - a formidable progeny who all possess his wit and intelligence. John spent thirty years of his career working for Biomeasure, Inc in Milford, MA, a French pharmaceutical company, as their Director of
Discovery where he was the architect of groundbreaking medications to treat cancer, diabetes and other illnesses. When he wasn’t in the laboratory he enjoyed skiing and was an avid runner, having participated in and finished the Boston Marathon ten times. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor, keen intelligence, and loyalty to friends and family, and with a smile on our faces, for his love of Diet Coke, chocolate chip cookies and carrot cake. In honor of John’s long career to combat the ravages of cancer, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, please donate on his behalf to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org. Visitation will be held in the Chapel of John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, MA 01760 on Saturday, April 27th from 2:00-4:00 P.M.
