Addie Chavis Obituary

Our beloved mother, Addie Lee Chavis, on July 4, 2022, went to be with her Lord, yet throughout her life she never hesitated to do everything in her power to demonstrate her love for her family and friends. She will be dearly missed, yet we shall see her again in the eternal kingdom.

Addie attended classes at Harvard University Extension School and Bay State College where she earned her degree in Applied Science.  She was an active volunteer of the Ohrenberger Community School Council 1973-1979 and elected President of the council in 1975, where her leadership was instrumental in developing and implementing appropriate curriculum and services for the community school system in Boston.  She worked for the United States Department of Defense at the US Army Natick R&D and Engineering Center from 1979 until retiring after 30+ years of faithful service to our Nation. Her colleagues, friends, and family knew her kind and gentle soul, always willing to help others.

Addie enjoyed gardening, sewing, crafts, cooking, home improvement, the beach, writing and painting, and most of all spending time with family. Born in Lake Charles, Louisiana, Addie's family later lived in Germany, Michigan, and finally Massachusetts where she started her own family.  Addie is survived by her children Norron Lee of Stafford, VA, Garrett Lee and his wife Ditte of Natick, MA, and Monique Vessey and her husband Charlie of Acton, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren Jared Lee, Shayna Lee, Desirae Lee, David Lutz, Harrison Lee, Charlie Vessey, and great-granddaughter Jacqueline Szczepanski. She is also survived by her mother Lillie Jackson, and siblings Dorothy “Dot” Petty, Mary Bly, Dorothea “Tia” Jackson, Joseph M. Chavis, Judy Sayegh and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded by her father Joseph S. Chavis and her brother Robert Jackson.

Visiting hours in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street NATICK COMMON will be on Monday, July 25th from 3pm – 6pm followed by a funeral service at 6 PM. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.

Mom

Your unconditional love,

Your determined care,

Your unselfish kindness,

You’re always there…

You are my mother,

You gave so much,

You kept me steady,

Your loving touch…

Through life’s trials and struggles,

And through times of great joy,

Your love kept me,

You took care of your boy…

Your love kept us all,

Your love was fierce,

Protecting your children,

Darkness could not pierce…

Now up in Heaven,

Where there are no tears,

You stand and watch,

Forever near.

~ Norron (Billy) Lee
