Barbara Brennan Obituary

Barbara (Spaulding) Brennan, 94, died peacefully on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, at Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland. Born in Clinton, Iowa to the late John D. and Mary Eleanor (Mooney) Spaulding, Barbara raised a family and lived most of her life in Framingham.  She was a graduate of Rosemont College in Rosemont, PA and received a master’s degree in education from Temple University in Philadelphia.

Barbara is survived by her son, Attorney Edward (Ned) Brennan Jr. of Maynard, her daughter, Sarah (Brennan) Phillips and her husband, Richard, of Wellesley, two loving grandchildren, Margaret and Henry Phillips and many cherished nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Edward F. Brennan, her sisters, Marcia Shea, Eleanor Murphy, and Elizabeth Shea, as well as her in-laws, Thomas and Sheila Dyer, Richard Brennan, and John Brennan.

Barbara was a dedicated elementary school teacher who brought warmth and care to every classroom she entered. She taught in Philadelphia, Dallas, and Springfield before spending more than 20 years teaching in Framingham at the Roosevelt, Charlotte Dunning, and Woodrow Wilson schools.

Barbara was a devoted member of St. Bridget Parish in Framingham, where she generously served as a lector, Eucharistic minister, and volunteered at the parish food pantry. Known for her incredible sense of humor and gift for storytelling, Barbara brought joy and laughter to those around her. She had a deep love for poetry, was a voracious reader, and surprised many with her enthusiasm for action, sci-fi and adventure movies.
