Barbara Crockford Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara J. Crockford, 85 on Aug 12, 2024 following a short illness. She was born in South Boston on Aug 14, 1938 and was a lifelong resident of Natick, MA.

She was the daughter of the late Howard and Virginia (Waite) Hedderig of Zephyrhills, FL, formerly of Natick, MA and daughter-in-law of the late Pearl Crockford of Wayland, MA.

She leaves her husband, Dana Crockford, with whom she shared a loving 66 year marriage, her son David Crockford of Haverhill, MA, her son Russell Crockford and his wife Danielle of Plymouth, MA. Also her cherished grandchildren, Max Crockford and Aidan Crockford also of Plymouth, MA, and her brother, Bruce Hedderig and his wife Kathryn of Arroyo Grande, CA.

Barbara worked for more than 25 years as a Sales Associate at Jordan Marsh and Macy’s retiring in 2003.

Barbara was an exceptionally kind, caring and giving person, loved by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed. While quiet about her beliefs, she was very religious and was a very active, lifelong member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Natick, MA.

She was an avid baker and enjoyed sewing, making many of her own clothes. She was a prolific reader, often reading several books a week. She spent many hours at the Morse Institute Library in Natick Center. She also loved the beach, either at Dug pond, the local pool or while camping, where she would often be found enjoying the sun and reading a book.

Barbara spent over 40 years camping in the Richardson Lake region of Northwestern Maine with her husband Dana. In the early years they paddled by canoe 10 miles to their favorite campsite on Metallak Island, a remote island in Upper Richardson Lake where they spent two weeks in a tent. Later, they abandoned the tent and canoe for an RV and continued to enjoy camping at South Arm Campground on Lower Richardson Lake.

Barbara was a member of the Aurora Chapter No. 9, Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 39 East Central St. Natick, MA. 01760, on Saturday, November 16th at 11:00 am. Burial at Glenwood Cemetery, 25 Glenwood St, in South Natick will follow. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
