Daniel T. Mahoney, Jr., 84, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, following a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dan was born on June 2, 1942, in Providence, Rhode Island, to the late Helen (Keefe) and Daniel T. Mahoney, Sr. He was raised in Melrose, Massachusetts alongside his three sisters, Alice, Helen and Ann.

Dan attended Boston College, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Economics. While at Boston College he participated in ROTC and following graduation was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. He served in the Army Infantry rising to the rank of First Lieutenant and completing two years of active duty, including service at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He later continued his service in the U.S. Army Reserve and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

It was during his college years that Dan met the love of his life, Rosemary Heron, while the two were working at the First National grocery store in Melrose. For Dan, it was love at first sight. They married shortly thereafter. During the early years of their marriage, Dan and Rosemary lived in Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Melrose, MA; and Melbourne, FL before eventually settling in Natick, Massachusetts, where they raised their four children and became deeply rooted in the community they would call home.

Dan built his career in management at Honeywell, where his natural business instincts and leadership abilities served him well. His entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him in a new direction when he opened Uniglobe Travel in Natick with Rosemary and their daughter Christine. His business savvy remained a part of who he was throughout his life, and as his children grew up and entered careers of their own, Dad was often a trusted source of advice and counsel. He took great pride in sharing what he had learned and helping his children navigate their own professional lives.

Dan believed strongly in giving back to the community. He was an active member of the Natick Rotary Club, including serving in leadership positions and was recognized multiple times as a Paul Harris Fellow. He generously gave his time and talents wherever they were needed and found great purpose in serving others.

His Catholic faith was equally central to his life. Dan was a devoted member of St. Patrick’s Parish in Natick, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and was deeply involved in parish life. Together with Rosemary, he helped lead the parish’s 24-hour Adoration Chapel for many years. Their shared faith was a cornerstone of their marriage and the life they built together.

For his family, however, some of the most treasured memories were in the simpler moments.

There were summers at his parents’ home in South Yarmouth, Cape Cod, and evenings when he would pick up his guitar and play along with 8-track recordings of Neil Diamond and Peter, Paul and Mary, with the family singing along. We can still picture him relaxing on the couch with his old pipe, its familiar vanilla aroma filling the room. These are the memories that remain, the sounds, places and little traditions that made him Dad.

Becoming a grandfather brought out an especially playful and adoring side. He treasured his granddaughters, Emma Rosemary and Rebecca.

Dan was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosemary (Heron) Mahoney; his sons, James Mahoney and Daniel T. Mahoney III; and his daughter-in-law, Stephanie Mahoney.

Dan leaves behind his daughters Christine LaRosa and her husband Buddy, Karen Mahoney and her daughter Emma, and granddaughter Rebecca. He also leaves his sisters, many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

After a long journey with Alzheimer’s, we take comfort knowing that he is finally at peace and reunited with his beloved Rosemary and his sons, Jim and Dan.
