David Carl Cooper, 75, of Natick, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, February 9, 2025, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania on September 16, 1949, he was the beloved son of Lawrence A. and Laura Harris Cooper.
Growing up, David was very close to his family. He enjoyed his mother's cooking and spending time with his parents. David decided to join the United States Marine Corps to contribute to the fight for freedom of his country. He served during the Vietnam War with honor, courage, and patriotism.
Later, he moved to Massachusetts and lived with his aunt, always making sure to stay in regular contact with his family in Pennsylvania. In Boston, he became a certified technician at a computer company. He was self-motivated to study and excel in all his endeavors. He enjoyed his work, where he was able to make friends who shared similar interests. In addition to his love for computers, he loved Bruce Lee. He was inspired by Bruce Lee's skills and power, enjoying his movies, and even learning how to use nun chucks.
In his life David enjoyed chess, piano, and sports cars. He was a very talented chess player, which is attributed to his many years of intense study and practice of the game. This dedication led him to success in tournaments, and he later became a chess coach for young students. His self-motivated mindset also led him to learn piano, he loved performing for others whenever the opportunity arose.
Other than his interests in chess and music, David also admired sports cars. He enjoyed attending car events and shows, not only to show off his own muscle car, but to enjoy the social scene and have chats with others about the sports car hobby in general. He always believed that the best sports cars were made in the USA, illustrating the patriotism and pride he had for his country. He was inspired by the Transformer movies and Bumblebee, getting a Chevy Camaro as his first supercar. He always had his special license plate with the word "THRUST" to symbolize the power of his car. He later eventually got his dream car, a Corvette Stingray.
After retiring, David began working part-time at a retail store. During that time in 2010, he met Siu Kwan, a friend that changed his life. They formed a strong bond as they were able to relate their experiences in life. He became a part of her family, becoming a teacher for her kids, watching them grow up until they pursued their graduate degrees. He was a strong pillar in their lives, guiding them and supporting them. Siu and her family took David on vacations and adventures, showing him new sides of the world. They spent their time together for 15 years, Siu’s family taking him to their holiday celebration traditions where they spent Thanksgivings together eating Thanksgiving turkey and dinner, Christmas together opening gifts under the Christmas tree, the New Years together watching the fireworks, and also celebrating the Chinese New Year together. They considered him half-Chinese as he was a part of the family. They always appreciated each other's presence, leaning on each other in times of both happiness and hardships.
David has always loved his family and stayed connected with them even after moving to Massachusetts. Because of this love, he wanted to return to Pennsylvania to be with his family. It was his last wish to be back home.
David is predeceased by his parents, his brother, Steven Cooper, and his sister, Anne Elizabeth Cooper. He was the loving brother to Laura Golden, and Lawrence Scott Cooper, of PA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his dear friend, Siu Kwan and her family. He will be forever remembered by all those who knew him and loved him.
