Delores Southwick Obituary

Delores Southwick passed away at the age of 89 surrounded by her three daughters Romma, Lea and Noelle at Umass Hospital in Worcester. She had many family members on the other side including her parents, Gerald and Derine Masho, two of her siblings, Jerry Masho and Dee Dee Caruso, her husband of 28 years, Francis Southwick and her son Neel Southwick, who all pre-deceased her. Delores leaves eight grandchildren, Devon and Jarod Ellis, Collen, Arin and Quinton Marra, Mikayla LaFleur, Benjamin and Farrah Southwick. Additionally, she leaves her brother Don Masho, son-in-law Frank Marra, daughter Romma’s fiancé Jameson White and his three children, her honorary grandchildren, Matt, Grace and Nick. Delores also had multiple nieces and nephews and lots of friends both old and new.

Delores was born in Boston and spent her life in Massachusetts.  She spent her early years and young adulthood in Allston, MA. At age 25 she met her husband at a dance, they married in 1962 and moved to Newton. She had a baby girl about a year after being married and then twins thirteen months later. The couple bought a house and moved their young family to Natick. Delores gave birth to a son three years after the twins which completed their family. Delores and Francis raised their family in Natick with all four children graduating from the Natick High School before attending colleges in Massachusetts. Delores lived in several other towns in Massachusetts including, Newton, Upton, and Westboro before settling at New Horizons assisted living in Marlboro for the sixteen months before her passing.

It was Delores’ optimism and indomitable spirit that got her through life’s challenges.  She loved life and looked for the good in people and in the circumstances she faced. Her ability to appreciate the divinity of life despite its ups and downs was admirable.

She loved the beach and spent a great deal of her summers on the Cape.  Although the majority of her time was spent in Massachusetts she also visited other states including Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Louisiana, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Hawaii and all the states of New England. She traveled internationally to England, Ireland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Greece, Bermuda and Austria. Traveling offered Delores the opportunity to explore new locations, learn about different cultures and develop deeper relationships with the friends and family with which she traveled.

Delores loved shopping and was an expert at finding a bargain. Her aesthetic was seen in the rooms she decorated and the clothing she wore. Her decorating was both trendy and timeless. Even into her eighties Delores’ fashion sense was noticeable in everything she wore. Her attention to details in her clothing and surroundings expressed her unique beauty and elegance.

Art was an important part of Delores’ life. She took drawing and painting classes and even into her late years enjoyed crafting and coloring.

She will be remembered for her accepting nature and the broad smile with which she greeted everyone she met. She was very social and enjoyed meeting new people. She easily made friends everywhere she went. She will also be remembered for her passionate commitment to her family. She was devoted to her siblings, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and their families. Delores loved spending time with friends and family, contributing her support and listening to the stories of their lives. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
