Denis Miles Obituary

Denis Timothy Miles a long-time resident of Holliston, MA passed away at home following a long illness on July 8, 2025 surrounded by his family and loyal dog, Padraig. Denis was born on April 16, 1945 in Cambridge, MA to his loving mother Mary Elizabeth (Crowley) Miles and Robert Joseph Miles. Denis was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Greene) Miles for 59 years. Dedicated son-in-law of William and Mary (Donnelly) Greene. Devoted father to Baby Denis (Denis Timothy Miles, Jr.) of Heaven, Michael D. Miles and daughter-in-law Jennifer (Lilly) Miles of Millis, Beth Anne Miles of Franklin. Cherished grandfather (papa) to Kaitlyn Patricia Miles, and Shannon Michaela Miles. Loving brother of Donald Miles, Donna (Miles) Pespisa, Mary Ellen Miles, and Robert Miles. Caring brother-in-law to Gina Miles, Lorraine Miles, Mary Ellen O’Connor, Evelyn Gallagher, Billy Greene, and Linda Kilmartin. Denis is survived by 19 nieces and nephews, many great-nieces and great-nephews, and many who were lucky to call him friend and mentor.
Denis graduated from Charlestown High School where he held several awards for Track and Field. He was the fastest man many had ever seen. Holliston residents may have seen Denis sailing his Force 5 at Lake Winthrop, woodworking in the yard, or walking Padraig along the streets and chatting with neighbors along the way. He loved flying drones, creating audio visual works of art, and creating Karaoke audioscapes at family gatherings. Denis held Master’s, Bachelor’s and Associate’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. He took enormous pride in being an engineer and was frequently the “go to guy” for complicated projects. He worked for years on the revolutionary Cardiovascular Analog Trainer (CAT), used in the practical education of medical students, combining his interests in medicine and engineering and holds a patent for “Method and apparatus for powering a strobe for retinal imaging US7512333B2”

The world was lucky that Denis worked as an engineer for many companies from his early days at Krohn-Hite Corporation and Honeywell, through his time as chief engineer at Harvard Apparatus, and including companies like Raytheon and Fibersense. Denis was an adjunct professor at several universities, including Quinsigamond College and his almamater Northeastern University where students described him as a valued mentor and would chase him across the quad to talk. He always focused on supporting learning and the success of his students. Please share your memories about Denis with all of us on the online guestbook!
