Dennis Edwin Fosberg, 77, of Natick, MA, passed away peacefully on June 10th at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, surrounded by his loving family. Dennis was born on New Year's Eve, 1948, in Natick, MA, to Edwin and Catherine Fosberg. He graduated from Natick High School with the class of 1967.

Growing up in Framingham and Natick, he befriended an endless supply of cousins and friends who provided many tales for him to regale later in life — tales that brought lots of laughs and "Wows!" from anyone he shared them with. Dennis played multiple sports growing up and focused on baseball, becoming a standout pitcher at Natick High. This began a three-generation family tradition of Fosbergs playing baseball for the Redhawks.

Dennis joined the Natick Fire Department in 1970, beginning a 40-year career during which he rose to the rank of Lieutenant and was universally regarded as a "Good Jake" — the highest compliment a firefighter could receive. He formed countless friendships over those 40 years and treasured them all, especially the Speen St. Engine 4 crew of "Buzzer" Brown, Buddy Hladick, Andy Hladick, and Mike Haigis, with whom he shared over 20 years on shift.  Following retirement, he served as an instructor at the Massachusetts Fire Academy in Stow, sharing his expertise with new recruits.  Dennis also pursued his greatest passion — baseball — and in 1983 he resurrected the Natick American Legion team, leading the inaugural squad to a 5th-place finish at the American Legion World Series in Fargo, ND. He coached the Legion program for the next 10 years, mentoring some of the greatest baseball talent in Natick history and amassing numerous Zone titles and State tournament appearances.

Dennis married his high school sweetheart and lifetime love, Mary Lou (Connell), in 1968. They set down roots in South Natick and filled their home with their adored children: sons Dennis and Derek, and daughters Leigh and Jill. That home was the centerpiece of their world — a gathering place for neighborhood kids who rode their bikes over to play street hockey, baseball, and football, ensuring Dennis' beloved lawn was never quite fully green. They welcomed anyone through their door at any time, with the annual Christmas Eve open house being a beloved tradition, where wine, beer, Framingham Bakery pizza, and meatballs flowed freely for all who came.

In 2002, their first grandchildren — twins Benjamin and Samuel — arrived, followed over the years by William, Ava, Lily, Nathan, Mary, and Dylan. This was the period where Dennis truly shined in his role as "Grampy," with "Nonnie" always by his side. They loved nothing more than being with, doting on, and spoiling their grandchildren — from babysitting and watching them play sports to attending school events and driving them most everywhere. The bond they formed with each grandchild was truly special. In 2014, Dennis and Mary Lou fulfilled his lifelong dream of buying a house on the Cape. They moved to Centerville, MA, just around the corner from Craigville Beach, where they began new traditions at their new home — affectionately nicknamed "Sta8tion" in honor of their eight grandchildren. He welcomed and invited everyone he knew to enjoy the place he loved so dearly. There was no spot in the world he would rather have been than sitting on the patio he built by hand, sipping coffee at 6 a.m. while waiting for everyone to wake up or arrive.  As he liked to say, "The Cape air is just different".

He was preceded in death by his parents. Dennis is survived by his wife, Mary Lou; his sons, Dennis R. Fosberg (Ingrid) and Derek Fosberg (Renee); his daughters, Leigh Fosberg Tocio and Jill Fosberg Guigli (Michael), all of Natick; his sisters, Catherine MacGregor of Eastham and Christine Lundblad of Natick; and his aforementioned grandchildren.

Funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, NATICK COMMON, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at 9:00 am. Followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Patrick Church, 44 E. Central St., Natick at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend. Interment will be held at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Natick. Visiting Hours at the funeral home on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, from 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
