Doris McLarnon Obituary

Of Natick, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln (MA).  She was 93 years old.

She was the loving wife of 53 years to the late Robert (“Bob”) McLarnon, whom she had known since childhood as her older brother’s best friend.  Doris and Bob enjoyed gardening, spending time with family, and experiencing the great outdoors in the family camper during the 1960s and 1970s.  The family enjoyed numerous trips to Colorado, among many destinations in the US and Canada.

Born in New Jersey in 1927, she was the daughter of the late William and Irene (Bendel) Beck of Haddonfield, New Jersey.  Doris graduated from Glassboro State College (NJ State Teachers) in 1949.   While at Glassboro, “Becky” developed lasting friendships that she cherished, and is remembered fondly by her life-long friend, Lillian Eulo.  She also began dating Bob after his return from China during WWII.  Doris was an elementary school teacher in New Jersey before marrying and starting her family.  The McLarnon family lived near Philadelphia and Pittsburgh before moving to Natick in 1967.  She had been a Natick resident for 54 years and lived independently in her own home until recently.

An avid sports fan, Doris faithfully rooted for the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, and greatly enjoyed the many championships of the hometown teams in recent years.

Doris is survived by her devoted sons, David R McLarnon and Scott D McLarnon, both of Natick; and her daughters-in-law Nona McLarnon of Burlington and Chrissie McLarnon of Natick.  She was the very proud and greatly loved "Grandmom" of three grandchildren, Chelsea E McLarnon of Burlington, and Robert J McLarnon and Julie M McLarnon, both of Natick.  She is also survived by her nieces Donna, Michelle and Debbie, brother-in-law John, and her dear friend, Vickie Deeley of Natick.  Doris will be remembered fondly by her extended family (the Coynes, Sinclairs, Nyquists and Bascoms), as well as many friends and neighbors over the years.  She was predeceased by her husband Bob, brother Don and sister Judy.

Doris’ family appreciates the wonderful care provided by the nurses, doctors, chaplains, caregivers and staff at Care Dimensions Hospice House, MGH (Ellison 11), Metrowest Medical Center, Whitney Place and Beaumont Rehab in Natick.  Thanks also to the Natick Fire Department for their help over recent years.  We are especially grateful to Dr. Christopher Gange and Dr. Liza Meyerhardt for their special care to help Doris enjoy many years of life with her loving family and friends.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at Natick Common.  Due to Covid-19, graveside services will be private at Glenwood Cemetery on Glen Street in South Natick.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Doris' memory to Care Dimensions Hospice House, www.giving.caredimensions.org, or to the Natick Service Council, 2 Webster St, Natick, 01760 or to a charity of your choosing.
