Dr. Steven Frager, formerly of Dover and then Framingham MA passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2024. He was the loving father of Amy Wilcox and her late husband Keith E. Wilcox, Adam K. Frager, and his wife Eileen. Loving grandfather to Mollie, Jake, Nora and Shayna Wilcox, as well as Sarah and Lily Frager. Beloved brother of Edward Frager and his wife Martha, and the late Cynthia Rosen and her late husband Robert. Steven is also survived by his ex-wife, Judith Boucher, to whom he remained a close friend throughout the years.
Steven was born on December 8, 1937, in Winthrop, MA, son of the late Hyman and Irene (Rubin) Frager. He was raised in Portland, ME and graduated from Deering High School. He went on to Bowdoin College and Tufts Medical school. He was a Major in the US Army, serving in Vietnam, where he received a Bronze Star.
He practiced medicine as a general surgeon at Leonard Morse Hospital with Natick Surgical Associates. He was a member of the American Board of Surgery, courtesy staff at Boston City Hospital as well as Clinical Instructor at Tufts School of Medicine.
He is fondly remembered by family and friends as a man of strong opinions, and a quick wit. He loved classical music, as well as opera, and served on the Board of The Boston Early Music Festival. His “prized possession” was his red Porche 914, the only car ever allowed to be parked in the garage! He loved his Basset Hounds, one of which became a Champion Show Dog. He also rescued several Greyhounds.
He kept in touch with special friends, reminiscing about old army stories, as well as his many colleagues. At the age of 80, he re-entered the world of Bridge as a duplicate player with his college roommate. Playing competitively, he was well on his way to becoming a “Life Master”.
Steven will be greatly missed by family and friends.
A private celebration of life is being planned for a later date.
