Edward J. Mulholland Jr., 84, of Natick, MA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 21, 2023, at the Elizabeth Seton Residence, Wellesley, MA.
He was the husband of Beverly (McDade) Mulholland, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Edward and Anne (Horne) Mulholland. Ed and Bev married and celebrated their honeymoon on a 1962 road trip to the Boston area, where Ed enrolled and completed his PhD at Boston College. They eventually settled in Natick in 1973, where they have since been loyal parishioners at St. Linus.
“Dr. Ed” was a professor and administrator at Regis College in Weston, MA for 48 years, retiring in 2014. He was known for wearing several hats to help wherever needed, his sense of humor, and thoughtfully caring about his students, colleagues and the school. He also simultaneously taught evening classes for Northeastern University for many years. Ed enjoyed fishing and camping from a young age, and picked up golf during his adult years; but nothing made him more proud than his family. First, it was Bev and his five boys and eventually his 11 grandchildren. “Pa” enjoyed watching their activities and sporting events, summer weeks on the beaches of Maine and NH, hosting his annual Easter peep hunts, Christmas stocking presentations, or simply holding court with the grandkids after his legendary red chicken dinner.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, Ed is survived by five sons, Charles Mulholland of Natick, MA, Edward Mulholland of Marlborough, MA, James Mulholland (Kim) of Eldersburg, MD, Mark Mulholland (Lea) of Shrewsbury, MA, and Patrick Mulholland (Bridget) of Natick, MA. He also leaves eleven grandchildren, Annie (Zach), Tim, Charlie, Shannon, Caitlin, Erin, Matt, Meghan, Jake, Cate and Patrick. He is predeceased by his brother, Terry Mulholland and his wife, Patty.
