Edward Joseph Finerty Jr., “Ed” 94 of Framingham, formerly of Natick, passed away on Saturday, February 15, 2025, with family and friends surrounding him with love.
Born on November 13, 1930, in Dorchester, MA, he was the beloved son of Edward Joseph and Marion (Campbell) Finerty Sr. Ed grew up in Milton where he was an altar server for Saint Agatha Church and played baseball and football for Milton High School class of 1948. He worked his way through Dartmouth College and TUCK Business School where he graduated in 1952 and 1953 respectively. Ed enlisted in the Navy and served as a Lieutenant Commander aboard the USS Fessenden DS in the Korean War. He fell in love with Peggy Shea, his wife of 44 years, and they went on many adventures--perhaps the biggest one being their move to Hong Kong where Ed shared his IBM sales expertise with students from Southeast Asia! Ed was a runner and proudly finished the Boston Marathon at age 51. Ed was an incredible father to his three children and the quintessential grandfather to his six grandchildren. He was honored to serve St. Patrick's Church for 50 years in various capacities: lecter, eucharistic minister, CCD teacher, altar server, finance committee, Respect Life Ministry, St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ed and Peg were active in Worldwide Marriage Encounter for many years sharing their love of God and the sanctity of marriage. Ed was a lifelong learner and enjoyed going to BOLLI at Brandeis University well into his 80s. Ed was a kind, loyal and generous friend. He always had an upbeat attitude and never judged others nor had a bad word to say about anyone. Ed loved life and lived it with clear devotion to his faith, family, and friends. He will be missed beyond measure by all who were blessed to know him.
Ed is predeceased by his wife, Helen Margaret Finerty, “Peg” (Shea). He was the loving father to Edward J. Finerty, III, of Natick, Susan J. Bucur and her late husband James, of Sandy Hook, CT, and Julie A. Koppang and her husband Christopher, of Reston, VA. Devoted grandfather to six grandchildren, Lindsey, Edward, Kevin, Samantha, Jamie, and Jennifer, and one great grandchild, Jack. Edward is also survived by his beloved brother, Gary Finerty and his wife, Judy, of Danville, NH, and he was a loving uncle to a niece and several nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central St., Natick on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, in Natick.
