Ed Shagory passed away peacefully in Natick, surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife, Susan; his four children; and two grandchildren.
Ed grew up in West Roxbury, attending Boston Latin School, Boston University, and Suffolk Law School. He brought tremendous joy and humor to the world and lived by the mantra: always keep one foot in the sandbox. Ed was happiest when surrounded by people—and a little bit of chaos. He treasured time with his family, especially traveling, skiing, and canoeing down the Saco River.
Ed never met a stranger—only people he hadn’t started talking to yet. He could (and would) strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere, at any time—even when traveling abroad and facing the minor obstacle of not speaking the same language.
Ed served his country as an Army Reserve JAG for 23 years while simultaneously working as an attorney in Boston. In retirement, he found his perfect second act as a Natick substitute teacher and Woodtrail staff member—roles that allowed him to continue doing what he did best: connecting with people, making them laugh, and bending the rules just enough to keep things interesting.
A celebration of Ed’s life will be held on April 25th from 2–4 p.m. at the Natick Elks, 95 Speen Street, Natick, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Ed’s Woodtrail Memorial Fund by check to Middlesex Savings Bank or online at Donate | Ed's Woodtrail Memorial Fund.
Ed’s family takes comfort in knowing he’s already making new friends wherever he is.
