Eric Andersen Obituary

Eric Michael Andersen, 47, of Natick, MA, passed away from natural causes while traveling overseas on Thursday, June 1, 2023.

Born in Somerset, NJ, he was the son of William Andersen and Jane Lifset of Lyndeborough, NH.

Eric was the devoted and proud father to his son, Spencer Andersen of Natick, MA, current student at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Eric and Spencer loved to travel together, in recent years visiting Iceland, Dubai, and the Bahamas.

Eric is also survived by a brother, Peter Andersen of Lyndeborough, NH, a half-sister, Antigone Andersen of Baltimore, MD,  and his former wife, Jennifer Andersen of Natick. Eric was a beloved brother-in-law to Anthony and Kait DeLuise of Great Barrington, MA and Rob and Janelle Zand of New York City and Harwich Port, MA, as well as a loving uncle to Leo Zand.

Eric graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University in Providence, RI with a degree in Mathematics. He maintained a deep connection to his alma mater, serving as an interviewer for the College Admissions Office for two decades and attending events on campus, including his 25th Reunion Weekend last month. While a student at Brown, Eric was a founding member of Technology House, a cooperative living program for students with an interest in science and technology, and he was a member of the a cappella group the Higher Keys.

Eric joined IBM immediately after graduating from Brown. After many decades as a Chief Architect, in the last year, Eric’s role transitioned to Client Technical Lead as IBM separated its IT activities into Kyndryl, overseeing IT Services, IT Management, Operations, AI, Cyber Resiliency, and IT transformation and modernization.

In his long career in tech, Eric helped to drive innovation and excellence. He was instrumental in identifying opportunities for both tactical and strategic partnerships for financial services clients,  developer and operations training, hackathons, technology workshops, studios, digital conferences, and many other events.

Eric has been widely recognized for his innovative customer solutions and has received many accolades for his work. As Chief Architect for State Street’s Iris Trading Platform, his group won a 2017 AFTA Award for Best Cross-Asset Trading Initiative and he was twice the recipient of IBM's Outstanding Technical Achievement Award.

Eric was an early adopter of social media platforms Twitter and Foursquare, and he was passionate about the human connections made possible through this new medium. He also generously gave his time as a volunteer boys’ soccer coach with Natick Soccer Club for many years and served as a mentor offering workshops on interview skills to high school students at Boston Latin Academy.

A talented pianist and flutist, Eric also had a lifelong love of singing and was a member of the choir at Trinitarian Congregational Church in Wayland, MA. Eric had several artistic and creative gifts, including creating origami. Passionate about the outdoors, Eric particularly enjoyed walks in Natick’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary. He supported many environmental and other charitable causes.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at 3PM at Trinitarian Congregational Church, 53 Cochituate Rd., Wayland, MA.

Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Eric’s memory to Mass Audubon.
