Faith Madzar Obituary

Faith Marilynn Madzar, 89, of Natick, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Wednesday, December 18, 2024.

Born in Watertown, Wisconsin, on September 12, 1935, the oldest of five daughters of Chester O. and Margaret (Meyers) Blaese. Faith is predeceased by her husband, Robert J. Madzar, and her daughter, Meg Madzar.

Faith’s family is deeply saddened by her passing, she was a loving mother to Mary and her husband Ty, Ann and her partner Angel, Rob and his wife Carolyn, Peter, and Ellen and her partner Dave. Faith was the doting grandmother of Kathryn, Max and his wife Gergana, and great-granddaughter, Borissa.

Faith and Bob were married in 1956 and once Bob completed his studies at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and fulfilling his ROTC obligations in Arizona, they headed to Massachusetts, landing in Natick, where they lived and raised their family.

Faith was an artist and art lover and in the early 1970's continued her studies at what was then Framingham State College, attending continuing education classes, graduating in 1976 with a degree in Studio Art.

Another passion of Faiths was the Peace and Justice movement. She belonged to Pax Christi a Christian group that "strives to create a world that reflects the Peace of Christ by exploring, articulating, and witnessing to the call of Christian nonviolence." You could find Faith most Saturday mornings for years holding vigil in downtown Natick "on the corner" of Routes 135 and 27, opposing war and nuclear weapons and advocating for peace. Faith's commitment to her Christian faith also brought her to San Jose Las Flores, El Salvador, on a couple of occasions to work with and help the parishioners at the sister parish of St. Patrick's of Natick.

Faith worked at Wellesley College for over nineteen years and retired as the Coordinator of Schneider Ctr., the student center at the time. Faith really loved her time at the College where she made many friends, including students who she stayed in touch with after they graduated. Faith was so beloved by the students and her fellow co-workers that she was celebrated and bestowed with an honorary alumni title.

Music was another of Faith's favorite things. She had a great singing voice and was always the loudest parishioner at Sunday mass and at the age of eighty she was the oldest member of the intergenerational choir Sound and Spirit.

Faith delighted in her flower gardens, creating art, reading, writing letters to far away friends and relatives and the occasional politician or publication, she enjoyed her book group, a good joke, walks to the library, having coffee with Sharon, Saturday morning breakfasts out with Bob, and of course spending time with her family and wide circle of friends. Faith was most of all, a lover of life.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa of Lisieux Parish, in Sherborn, on January 18th 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
