Florindo "Fred" Federico

Florindo “Fred” Federico, born in Italy (Pettorano sul Gizio, near Sulmona) on December 8, 1926, died on Thursday, September 1, 2022, after a brief illness, in Florida. He was predeceased by his wife, Loretta (Zicko) Szretter-Federico and his son Robert. Fred is survived by his loving sister Eva, his daughter Carmela, his stepchildren Hank (June) Szretter, Wayne (Jeanette) Szretter, Debra (Arthur) Rosenthal, Christine Gelb, and his dear companion, Petra Gerhard. He was the beloved “Pop-Pop” to his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and he’ll be missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, and friends in the United States and Italy.

Arriving from Italy to Philadelphia in 1952, and then years later, to Natick, Fred built an outstanding career as an upholsterer, completing many creative projects others deemed impossible. One of his proudest moments was when he became a US citizen in 1956.

A friend to all, Fred will be remembered for his artistry, devotion to his family, ballroom dancing, cooking, and love of travel. He and Loretta explored the world on many cruises and tours that brought them to dozens of destinations including Argentina, Scandinavia, the Caribbean, Russia, and the Holy Land. Especially important was the opportunity to re-connect with beloved family members in Italy. Fred’s travels continued until just recently with Petra and other close family members, cruising the Danube and visiting Costa Rica. She and Florindo truly appreciated their time together in Florida, walking, cooking, and dancing.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend his funeral service on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 10 AM at The Annunciation Albanian Orthodox Church, 37 Washington St. Natick, MA 01760. An hour of visitation will be held from 9 to 10 in the church. Burial will be private.
