Gene Charles Madden, of Centerville, MA, formerly of Holliston and Wayland, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2026 following a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he was the beloved son of the late John and Anna (Martin) Madden. Gene is predeceased by his first wife Janet (Brown) Madden, in 2011, and his siblings, Anne Burkett and John Madden. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Gene is survived by his beloved wife, Martha (Lewis) Madden, of Centerville; loving father to Carolyn Madden and Cynthia Slater, of Wayland; loving grandfather to Samantha and Ryan Frank, and Justin, Ashley, Cassidy, and Lexie Slater, of Wayland; brother of Thomas Madden, of Laconia, NH, David Madden and his wife Virginia of Mesa, AZ, Ken Madden of Altoona, PA, and sister-in-law Joan Madden of Montoursville, PA. Gene was also a loving uncle to several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Michigan State University, he served in the Navy. Gene was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist. During Gene's career he was grateful for the opportunity to serve his church as head of the IT department at the church headquarters in Boston. He also tremendously enjoyed heading up credit card security and compliance for Harvard University at a time when scams and fraud were increasingly prevalent, speaking nationally on the topic and working with faculty and staff throughout the university. He enjoyed travelling, and he loved the outdoors, especially hiking and kayaking.
A Memorial Service will be held at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick Common, on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend. Interment will be private. Donations in Gene’s memory may be made to the USO, Toys for Tots, or the Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association.
