Geoffrey Crawford Beane

Geoff Beane, whose working years were spent as an advocate for social justice, passed away on June 25th, 2026, at the age of 77. He was a man of conviction, who lived life with a strong moral compass, a playful spirit, and a stubborn streak that many people knew well. 

For more than three decades, Geoff worked as a consultant for the public sector, helping community-based organizations and service agencies build capacity, solve longstanding problems, and create systems and strategies to further their cause. Geoff was a co-founder and consultant with the Commonwealth Workforce Coalition from 1998 to 2014 and served as founder and executive director of the Massachusetts Workforce Alliance from 2001 to 2005.

Over the course of his career, he worked with organizations including the Community Economic Development Assistance Corporation, Cambridge Economic Opportunity Committee, Children’s Trust, the Metro SouthWest Regional Employment Board, and the Laborers’ International Union of North America. His work contributed to new structures and programs in the fields of workforce development and child abuse prevention, and he was widely valued for his ability to help organizations address persistent challenges, develop effective solutions, and find and create new opportunities.

He was profoundly committed to his volunteer work with Jericho Circle, an organization devoted to reducing recidivism amongst incarcerated men by cultivating self-awareness, emotional literacy, and deep healing. His work generated great gratitude and respect among the inside men.

He was born in Concord, MA, on July 11, 1948, to Elinor Murdock Peters Beane, and Richards Beane, and grew up on Hickory Squab Farm on Alden St. in Duxbury, MA. He majored in Art History at Harvard and earned a Master of Human Services Management from Brandeis University’s Heller School for Social Policy and Management in 1981.

He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Zayda E. Santos, his beloved daughter Alden Beane, his sisters Faith and Lindsay Beane, nephews Gus, Russel and Thomas, niece Emily, and several grand nieces and nephews, all of whom brought him great joy.

Geoff will be remembered for his compassion, intelligence, sense of humor, steady presence, love of music and all things chocolate, and his enduring commitment to helping people and communities.
