Gordon S.Channell of Dennis Port, formerly of Framingham and Natick, died peacefully on October 11, 2023. He was 95 years old.
Mr. Channell was born in Fall River MA. He was the son of Kenneth D. Channell and Gwendolyn Coyne Channell. In 1941 he moved to Natick and attended Natick Public Schools. He graduated from Natick High School in 1946 where he was an outstanding football player. After graduation, he joined the United States Army. He attended a parachute training course at The Infantry School in Fort Benning, Georgia and became a qualified parachutist. He served in the occupation of Japan in WWII.
Upon discharge, he worked in various positions with the Natick School Dept. Then in 1950 he joined the Natick Police Department and served as an officer for 43 years. During his tenure with the police dept. he was elected president of the Patrolman’s Union and he served as such for 10 years. As president of the union he made numerous beneficial changes to duty, days off and leaves of absence.
Gordon married Rita DeAngelis, his high school classmate in 1950. They had 3 children Gordon Jr, Alan and Lisa. They were married for 62 years and enjoyed retirement on Cape Cod until Rita’s passing in 2013.
He is predeceased by his son Gordon S. Channell Jr. in 1992 and his son Alan S. Channell Esq. in 1991.
Gordon was the brother of the late Kenneth D. Channell Jr. and Robert E Woods Jr. He was the father in law of the late Robert E. Stanton Jr. and the grandfather of the late Hillary Stanton Foulkes.
He is survived by his daughter Lisa C. Stanton, and his granddaughter Ashley Stanton of Bellingham MA and three great granddaughters. He is also survived by his sister Marcia Brinson and husband Jim of Plainville MA, his sister in law Arlene Channell of Franklin MA, his sister in law Paula Panchuck and husband Michael of Natick MA and many other nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, October 16, 2023, from 6-8PM in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., NATICK COMMON. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at 9AM in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will take place in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Pond St. Natick.
