James Pratt Obituary

James (Jim) Anthony Pratt, September 12, 1940-April 28, 2023
To live in hearts we left behind is not to die. - Thomas Campbell
On the evening of April 28, 2023 Jim Pratt passed away peacefully, at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice
Residence.
Jim initiated dialysis in 2019. This was a purely selfless decision. It was done to help take care of his
wife, Joan, as she progressed through her battle with Parkinson's. In October 2022 he made the
conscious decision to stop the laborious chore of his life supporting daily dialysis treatments. This was a
decision his daughters fully supported. Jim was given the gift of time to check off some bucket list items,
including a trip to Peak’s Island and an 82nd birthday celebration with his family. During his final months
of life Jim was able to connect with many close friends and family. He enjoyed and appreciated all these
connections. Jim was a kind, practical, patient person who took life's ups with the downs. He would often
state, “It is, what it is.” He once shared: “Life is like an onion, you pull back the layer’s and sometimes
you cry.”
Born in 1940 to the late Henry and Margaret Pratt. Jim grew up in Lewiston, Maine. He graduated from
Lewiston High School in 1959. He attended Burdett Business School earning an associates degree in
accounting and later attended Northeastern University taking classes in systems management. He spent
time working at Barron Anderson, Treasure Masters and Mail Data. In retirement, he enjoyed work as a
limousine driver. He was particularly fond of the variety of clients he came in contact with during that
period.
Jim married Joan Curran in 1963, at which time they moved to Massachusetts. In 1988, he married
Andrea Rose, and lived in New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. While living in New Hampshire, he
became very involved with the Highland Scottish Games, where he was treasurer for twelve years. He
loved sharing this event with his daughters and grandchildren. He also developed an interest in ballooning
where he was part of a balloon chase crew for friends for fourteen years. In 2002, he remarried his first
wife Joan and moved back to Natick, MA. He spent a short time living in assisted living. The support and
friendships he received there were appreciated especially after Joan passed. He had fond memories of
spending time at Peaks island as a child and on visits with his sister in later years. In later life he enjoyed
attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, long drives and dinners with family.
Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Regina, wife Joan, brother Joseph (Joe) Pratt and niece
Stephanie Pratt.
Jim is survived by his daughters, Kris (Bob) Gusmini and Gayle (Brad) Moskowitz; stepdaughter, Michelle
(Mike) Convey; grandchildren Shannon, Keith, Sarah Gusmini, Eli and Asa Moskowitz, Emma and Sofia
Convey; sister MaryEllen Harmon; brother Jonathon Pratt; niece Martha (Pratt) Sharrock as well as many
other nieces and nephews.
