Judith "Judy" Veinbergs Obituary

Judith “Judy” A. Veinbergs, 82, of Natick, MA, beloved wife of the late Kristians Veinbergs for 49 years, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 16, 2024, with her family by her side.

Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Richard F. and Evalin J. Anderson. Judy’s family later moved to Chicago, Illinois and then to Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Judy graduated from Palatine Township High School in Illinois where she earned a National Merit Scholarship to the University of Iowa School of Nursing. Believing God was calling her to the religious life, Judy declined the scholarship and entered the School of Sisters of St. Francis whose Motherhouse was in Milwaukee. She was given the name Sister Jolyn. Although she left religious life after 10 years, Judy remained in contact with the community until her death.

Judy earned a BSN from Alverno College in Milwaukee and a MSN from Boston University. She was a compassionate and caring RN for 43 years before retiring in 2008. She was a Head Nurse/Staff Educator at Sacred Heart Rehabilitation Hospital in Milwaukee, a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation Nursing/Nursing Supervisor at Youville Hospital in Cambridge, MA leaving there to be the Clinical Nurse Specialist in Rehabilitation at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston. It is while at PBBH she met and married her devoted husband, Kris.

After the birth of their son, caring for him was her priority. For that reason, she chose a different career path and became a postpartum and newborn nursery staff nurse at the Boston Hospital for Women, Lying-In Division where she worked weekends so that either she or Kris could be home to care of their son and later their daughter. When the PBBH, the Boston Hospital for Women and the Robert Breck Brigham Hospital merged to become the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and her children were older, Judy took a position as charge nurse on a postpartum unit and she ended her career as a nursing staff educator after 38 years at BWH.

Judy believed in trying to make a difference in her part of the world. She selflessly gave of her time and talents, serving on the Board of Directors for District V of the Massachusetts Nurses Association, the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Brigham & Women’s Hospital, the Board of Directors of Baypath Elder Services, Inc., as liaison between the Baypath Board and the Natick Council on Aging, as an ombudsman for nursing home residents, as a member of Natick’s St. Patrick Parish Pastoral Council, as a member of the parish’s Ministry of Hope, and as a Eucharistic Minister in the parish and at Metrowest Hospital in Natick, to name a few of the volunteer

activities she participated in during her life.

Judy had a great love of music and as a young adult played several instruments: piano, organ, violin, viola, cello, string bass and guitar. She was an accomplished cellist and high points in her life were

playing cello as a guest with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and with the Mitch Miller Orchestra. She was an avid reader and crafter who made jewelry and decorative centerpieces, some of which she sold at craft fairs, but mostly gave away to brighten someone’s day.

Judy is survived by her son, Michael J. Veinbergs and his wife Dorothy of Nolensville, TN; her daughter, Lori V. Devereaux and her husband Erik of Hanover, MA; five grandchildren: Jack, Joey, and Ava Veinbergs, Drew and Blake Devereaux; and her siblings Richard F. Anderson, Joan Foote and Jennie Hempstead, all of Melbourne, FL.

Funeral services and burial will be private.
