Katharine F. McGowan, of Natick, MA passed away peacefully on May 20th after a life marked by perseverance, compassion, generosity, and an enduring commitment to learning and service. She is the daughter of the late William F. and Blanche McGowan. She is survived by her sister Blanche S. McGowan and brother William D. McGowan.

A lifelong Natick resident, Katharine attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Newton Centre. Demonstrating remarkable determination and a passion for education, she began her college studies at the age of 38 and continued her academic journey for the next fifteen years. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Northeastern University in 1982, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Marketing in 1985. She was also a member of Sigma Epsilon Rho Honor Society. Katharine later pursued her interest in helping others by earning an MA degree in Psychology and Counseling from Framingham State College in 1993.

Katharine enjoyed a successful career in electronics sales and marketing before transitioning to the social services field, where she devoted herself to supporting others. Her generous spirit extended well beyond her professional life. She volunteered with Big Brothers Big Sisters, the Special Olympics, organizations assisting women recovering from addiction, and numerous other charitable causes throughout the years. She was also a member of the Red Hat Society.

Those who knew Katharine will remember her for her warm heart, infectious sense of humor, and her ability to persevere through life’s challenges with courage and grace. She delighted in celebrating life’s special moments and expressed her creativity through wedding albums, personalized collages, handcrafted Christmas cards, beautifully wrapped gifts, and thoughtfully planned gatherings. Her attention to detail and personal touch made family celebrations and holidays especially meaningful.

Katharine was also an avid sports fan, particularly devoted to the New England Patriots. She enjoyed traveling and created cherished memories during trips throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, Ireland, and the Bahamas. Above all, Katharine cherished the relationships she built throughout her life. Her kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering concern for others left a lasting impression on everyone, fortunate enough to know her.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Child Life Program at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Interment will be private.

Katharine’s memory will live in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
