Kevin Douglas Hughes, 54, of Natick, MA, passed away on April 23, 2026. Born November 9, 1971, in Decatur, Illinois, Kevin was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a talented scientist, most recently focused on research and development at Novartis in Cambridge.
Kevin is survived by his wife, Janeen; his daughters, Evelyn and Veronica, whom he adored with a famously soft heart; his parents, Linda and Walter Hughes; and his sister, Kelly Lombardi.
A man of many talents, Kevin was a gifted musician who enjoyed playing drums, guitar, bass, mandolin, keyboard, and ukulele. His passion for technology extended from building high-performance computers to a love for vintage gaming. He shared these skills generously, managing the IT needs of his wife’s office for many years. Kevin’s kindness was also felt in the office breakroom, which he took pride in stocking with sodas and freshly baked treats for all to enjoy.
Kevin and Janeen traveled the world together, notably spending the early years of their daughters' lives in Japan. Kevin relished his time there as a stay-at-home dad, exploring an amazing culture and cherishing what he often recalled as some of his happiest days.
At home, Kevin was known for his gentle spirit and his bond with the family cat, whom he delighted in feeding shrimp every day. His warmth, humor and kindness will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Funeral and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) https://rarediseases.org/give/ a cause near and dear to Kevin's heart.
