Lawrence Alston Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Lawrence “Larry” E. Alston, Jr. of Harwich (formerly of Natick) passed away on Saturday, March 1st.  He was 63 years old.

Born in Cambridge and raised in Chelmsford, he was the devoted son of Lawrence E. Alston, Sr. and the late Bernadette (Flynn).

Larry was a loving husband to Susan (Dailey) with whom he shared 35 years of marriage. He was the proud, dedicated father to Kevin (Victoria) Alston of Quincy, Brooke Alston of Harwich and Francis Alston of Medway.  Larry was the older brother to Judith (Jay) Soucy of Merrimac and leaves behind many nieces and nephews who all hold “Uncle Larry” in high regard.

Larry’s greatest joy in life was being surrounded by his family who he absolutely adored.  He cherished spending time with his children having coached their youth sports in Natick, traveling on many great adventures, boating, golfing, and always being the creative chef for family and friends. Larry, along with his daughter Brooke, was a longtime participant in the Pan-Mass Challenge. He doted on his grandpups Benjie and Chloe.  Larry was a thrill-seeker by nature, a passionate skydiver and pilot. He was a master of squeezing in as many things in a day as possible, yet still always managed to find time for everyone around him.

Larry was a highly respected technology executive with over thirty-five years experience driving innovation, spearheading new business initiatives, and leading successful turn-arounds.  Throughout his distinguished career, he held numerous leadership positions.  Larry holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Master of Business Administration from Northeastern University.

Larry left an indelible mark on lives both personally and professionally. He was an inspiring mentor and awesome friend to many.  Larry was admired for his wit and grit, friendship and generosity.  A courageous warrior and beacon of inspiration, he taught us to enjoy the now.  Larry will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.

The family is sincerely grateful for the compassionate care provided by the hospice staff at VNA of Cape Cod. Also, the family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dr. Jeffrey Meyerhardt and his dedicated team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Larry’s name to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Attn: Angelle Kettlewell, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445,  Memo line: colorectal cancer research

Burial will be private.
