Lillian M. (Emma) Fassino of Natick was born in East Boston in 1931, daughter of Philip Emma and Vicenza (Sadie) (Micciche) Emma. After high school, she worked as a secretary before meeting Edward G. Fassino at a dance at Moseley’s on the Charles. He became her beloved husband of over 68 years. Lil and Ed began a family in 1959 with the birth of their daughter Diane and moved to Natick in 1961, after which their daughter Carol was born in 1965. Over the years, Lillian was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones, to whom she extended a seemingly infinite capacity for love and grace.
She began volunteering as a librarian at Cole School before working at the Wellesley College library for more than 20 years, where she applied her organizational skills to the pursuit of making knowledge accessible. Each of her grandsons, Ben and Daniel, looked forward to “Grandma Day” throughout their childhoods. Lil and Ed spent many happy summers at their lake house in New Hampshire, where she loved hosting family and friends, and making new friends. She loved giraffes (and got to see them in Kenya), music (especially her favorite singers Chris Connor and Mel Tormé), travel with her husband, friends, and family, and was a passionate reader. She was a good friend and correspondent who could stay in touch across great time and distance.
Lillian is survived by her devoted husband Edward Fassino, her daughter Diane Fassino and her husband Jonathan Miller of Newton, her daughter Carol Fassino and her husband Kenneth Cundari of Framingham, and her grandsons Daniel Fassino and Ben Miller. She was the cherished sister of the late Charles Emma, and is survived by his wife Joanne Emma, the sister she never had, as well as Chuck and Joanne’s children and grandchildren.
