Margaret Sue Brackley, or Grammaggie, as she was affectionately known by her children and grandchildren, passed away peacefully on January 31, 2021, in her own bed in her own house with her cat, which is exactly how she wanted it. She was 83 years old.
Born in 1937, Margaret grew up in Boston, MA. She attended Skidmore College, and later went to Framingham State College to earn her teaching certification. She taught children with learning disabilities at Memorial School in Natick, MA, for more than 20 years. She spoke lovingly about her students, many with whom she kept in touch well after retirement.
In 1959, she married her best friend in the whole world, A. Lewis Brackley, Jr., of Kingfield, ME. After living for a time in New York City and Manchester, NH, they settled in Natick in a house within walking distance of the elementary and junior high schools.
Margaret enjoyed her evening glass of wine, watching Celtics games on television, and playing card games, including Bridge, Oh Hell, and Shanghai, with her family. Margaret was an avid reader of fiction, and she always worked the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzle in ink. A lover of Siamese cats, she always had at least one, sometimes as many as four, living in her house.
Grammaggie is survived by her three children and their spouses---Dana and Paul Huekell, Martha and Richard Hogan, and David and Susan Brackley---as well as her six grandchildren: Jessica, Zachary, Lewis, Sarah, Faith, and Drew. She is also survived by her latest cat, Heidi, who doesn’t know what to think.
Services for Margaret are private. For guestbook please see www.everettfuneral.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any donations to go to the Cancer Research Institute or to the Purr-fect Cat Shelter in Medway, MA.
