Marjorie Poppens Schellenberg Obituary

Marjorie Poppens Schellenberg, 88, of Natick Massachusetts died April 30th 2026 after a long life filled with meaning.



She was born in Mitchell, South Dakota and Marjorie graduated with a BA in English from the University of South Dakota, Vermillion; received her MA in Teaching from Yale University, with additional studies in Social Education at Boston University.

She was married to Peter J. Schellenberg on November 18th, 1961 in Connecticut. She taught English at Darien High School. Marjorie and Peter moved to Massachusetts and cofounded Electrical Components in 1962. She was a valued member of Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills, teaching the kindergarten class for over 20 years. Marjorie also served on the UU Service Committee Board in the 1970s, where she volunteered for many causes including prison reform.

Marjorie was predeceased by Peter; her father, Frederick Poppens, and her mother, Leola Poppens. She is survived by her son, Don Thorp, and his wife, Jeanette; her daughter, Meg Richardson, her husband, Paul, and her daughters, Abigail and Rebecca; and her daughter, Cathy, and her husband, Joe Sinko.

Visiting Hours in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street Natick Common on Thursday May 14th from 4-7pm and on Friday May 15th from 9am-12pm.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  There will be a gathering of remembrance in South Dakota and a Memorial Service at the UU Society of Wellesley Hills, Mass. in the fall.
