Marybeth Sheridan Walsh of Wellesley passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, after a brief illness, leaving behind a legacy of curiosity, courage, generosity, and deep love. She was the beloved wife of Martin A. Walsh, a devoted mother to Karen Walsh, Laura Eppen (Ron), Stacey Thompson (Scott), Martin Walsh II (Katie Joyce), and John Walsh (Amy), and a proud grandmother to her eleven grandchildren, who were among her greatest joys - Anneliese, Meredith, and Philip Eppen; Lillian, William, and Bridget Thompson; Grant and Camilla Walsh; and Grace, Gabrielle, and Rowan Walsh. Marybeth was predeceased by her husband, Marty, parents, John and Elizabeth Sheridan, and her brothers, Jack, Greg, Peter, and Jim.
Born on May 12, 1937, in New York City, Marybeth was the only daughter among five children. From the very beginning, she was a woman ahead of her time—fearless in thought, expansive in spirit, and endlessly curious about the world around her. Her academic journey began at Marymount College and soon led her to a life of service and learning as a member of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary. As a nun, Marybeth lived and taught throughout Europe, including Italy, France, and England, experiences that deepened her love of culture, travel, and lifelong learning. She went on to earn dual master’s degrees in chemistry and physics from Saint Louis University—an extraordinary achievement that reflected both her intellect and determination.
Soon after in Florida, Marybeth met the love of her life, Marty. Together they embraced a bold new chapter, leaving the Church to build a life rooted in family, partnership, and shared adventure. Marybeth became a devoted mother to their five children while continuing her calling as an educator. She taught at Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Massachusetts, later serving as Middle School Principal, all while completing her doctoral coursework and achieving ABD status for her PhD in Education. Never one to stop growing, she later earned her RN, expanding her capacity to care for others in yet another meaningful way.
With her husband Marty, Marybeth traveled the world, cherishing time with friends, family, and especially her grandchildren. She was giving by nature—an affectionate aunt to her beloved nieces and nephews, a grandmother to all who needed one, and a steadfast, thoughtful friend.
Marybeth’s warmth, intelligence, and generosity touched everyone she met. Her adventurous spirit and giving heart will be deeply missed, but the impact of her life—richly lived and generously shared—will continue on through all who loved her. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life on Friday, January 9th from 4:30 to 7:00 at the Natick Lodge of Elks. In lieu of flowers please consider taking time to help someone in need.
