PILETTE, Maurice M. age 73 passed peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on October 6 after a long battle with Multiple System Atrophy, a form of Parkinson’s Disease. Maurice was born in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire. He was the son of the late Marthe Pilette and Georges Pilette. He leaves his wife Marisa Pilette and daughter Danielle whom he adored. He also leaves his big brother Yvan and his wife Marsha and niece and nephew Michele and Roman, nephew and niece Yvan and Takako and nephew and niece Wilson and Fiona. He also leaves sister and brother in-law Anna Krell and Robert Krell, nephew and niece Christopher and Donika Krell all of Virginia. He also leaves sister in-law Floriana Pignatelli, nieces and nephews Corinne and Christopher Schieffer; Cassandra and Adam Lombardo and Lisa and Ron Neal. He was pre-deceased by brother in-law Robert Pignatelli. He also leaves little Mia whom he adored and other great nieces and great nephews and many friends and co-workers.
He also leaves many cousins most residing in Canada, in the Province of Quebec.
Maurice and his wife Marisa met at a high school dance at Newton North High School on May 17, 1966. They have been together since the age of 17. They grew up in Newton, lived in Natick for 39 years, then moving to Framingham 12 years ago.
Maurice was the owner of Mechanical Designs Ltd., a fire protection consulting engineering company for over 45 years. In addition to his company work he sat on at least eight NFPA Technical Committee Standards as technical member and chair. He lectured at WPI, Northeastern University, NFPA and NFSA as a National Seminar Instructor.
Maurice was appointed and served on State Boards, including: Fire Safety Commission serving as Chair and Vice Chair; The State Automatic Sprinkler Appeals Board as Chair and Vice-Chair; Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors – Governor’s Appointee; State Board of Building Regulations and Standards; Fire Prevention/Fire Protection Advisory Board; NICET Past Chair and Board of Governors. Maurice was also the State/Municipal Code Enforcement Consulting Engineer for several cities and towns. He was a member of several local, national and international professional organizations including the George Demeter Parliamentary Law and Procedure. He was also life member and past master of the Dalhousie Lodge F.&A.M.
Maurice received many awards and recognition of a lasting commitment to protect life and property from fire and related hazards, including: Life Member from National Fire Protection Association: Elected Fellow from Society of Fire Protection Engineers, “In recognition of significant accomplishments and stature in fire protection engineering and service to the profession”; The Fire Protection Research Foundation, Northeastern University, Boston Fire Department; Fire Prevention Association of Massachusetts; The Commonwealth of Massachusetts “The Massachusetts House of Representatives offers its sincerest congratulations in recognition of your dedication to fire safety in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Maurice served in the US Army from 1970 to 1972. He was a true gentleman, modest, smart, honest, passionate about his family, friends, his work and The Beatles.
Funeral from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, NATICK COMMON on Monday, October 16, 2023, at 9:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Church, 144 E. Central St., Natick at 10:00 am. Interment will be held at the MA National Veterans Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 pm. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, October 15, 2023, from 4 thru 8 pm.
