Michael Joseph Kickham died peacefully at his home in Sherborn, MA surrounded by his loving family holding his hands on August 15, 2023. He was 86.
He is survived by his loving wife Nancy and their six children: Michael and his wife Victoria, Lisa Crowley and her partner John Byda, Laura and her late husband Adilson Fonseca, Charles and his wife Amy, Brian and his wife Jennifer, and Nancy, in addition to his ten grandchildren, Matthew, Vanessa, Shauna, Marissa, Ciara, Olivia, Alexandra, Vivian, Thomas and Beatrice, as well as his dear sister, Penelope Reilly, his sisters-in-law Erika Kickham and Angela Hill, and his brothers-in-law Daniel Sullivan and Paul Grady Sr, as well as scores of nieces, nephews and friends.
The son of the late Dr. Charles and Margaret Kickham, Mike was born in Boston in 1937 and raised on Moss Hill Road in Jamaica Plain.
He attended Boston College High School and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1958. He met his wife Nancy in 1954 and asked her to his high school prom. They spent the next 70 years side by side, married for 59, and kept busy with six children and ten grandchildren. He worked at Ford Motor Company for over 40 years and proudly served in the US Army National Guard.
He was most passionate about two things in equal measure: his family and service to others. A fixture in Sherborn since 1974, he was a tireless volunteer and served on countless committees and causes, and in particular served the Sherborn Boy Scouts Troop 1 as Scoutmaster for 25 years and up to present day continued to coordinate their annual Christmas wreath sale.
His family was his other passion, attending the games, recitals and graduations of all six of his children and ten grandchildren. Good luck trying to get him to miss a game. He knew the names of every single one of his granddaughters’ friends, boyfriends, and their teenage dramas. A masterful and hilarious storyteller, he also loved to listen to his grandkids’ stories: their triumphs, failures and frustrations. His Grandkids called him “Grandapedia” because he always made the time to answer every single question they ever had. The love and dedication he showed for his wife, children, grandchildren, family and friends was unrivaled.
He will join in Heaven his dear siblings Charlie, Martha, Janice and her husband Dick, Peggy, Jimmy and brother-in-law, John Reilly.
A wake will be held at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St, Natick, from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 24. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Theresa’s Parish, 35 S.
