Pandi Charles Tutuny passed peacefully with his family by his side on June 16, 2024. Born in 1933, in Natick, MA, he was the son of Vasil and Kristina (Vasil) Tutuny, who emigrated here from Albania.
Pandi was married 69 wonderful years to the love of his life, Shirley (Enquist) Tutuny, who passed away in 2023. Together they raised their four children in Holliston. Family was of the utmost importance, especially his grandchildren who were his pride and joy. Those cherishing his memory are his children, Mark and his former wife Lora of Falmouth, Steven and his wife Jeannie of St. Augustine, Florida, Linnea and her husband Gary Whear of Pocasset, Gregory and his wife Alison of Natick. Grandchildren, Melissa Tutuny, Elaine DesPres and her husband Camden, Matthew Whear and his wife Lesley, Sydney Whear, Scott Whear and his wife Molly, Lauren and Andrea Tutuny. Niece Katherine Kolenda, nephew Joseph Dhosi, many grand nieces and nephews and many great friends. Pandi was predeceased by his sisters, Violetta Tutuny and Irene Dhosi, and brother-in-law Joseph Dhosi.
Pandi was an outstanding athlete. He co-captained Natick High School’s 1951 State Championship hockey team, was on the NHS 1949 State Championship football team and ran indoor/outdoor track. He was most proud of being a member of Natick High School’s first and only State Hockey Championship team and cherished the lifelong friendships he made. Following NHS, he walked on to Boston University’s hockey team and became a starting defenseman on their 1953 National Frozen Four hockey team. He also played in the inaugural Beanpot Hockey Tournament. Pandi was also an accomplished fast pitch softball pitcher in the Wellesley and Framingham Softball Leagues. He was credited with a number of no-hitters and once pitched a 1-0 shutout against the world-renowned Eddie Feigner of the King and his Court. Pandi was a founding contributor of Holliston Youth Hockey and later coached the Holliston High School and Dover-Sherborn hockey teams. In his retirement years, he continued to stay active as a member of the Pocasset Golf Club.
Pandi worked 32 years as a General Supervisor and retired from General Motors in Framingham. He semi-retired to Cape Cod with his wife Shirley, where he worked 27 more years as an Administrative Clerk for Global Petroleum, Sandwich, MA on Cape Cod Canal.
In addition to his athletic accomplishments, and love and dedication to his family, Pandi will be remembered for his kind, generous spirit and winning smile. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need and made a lasting impact on everyone he met.
Visiting Hours will be held at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick Common on Monday, June 24, from 11-12:00, followed by a service. Burial will take place at Dell Park Cemetery, 163 Pond Street, Natick. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Vi Tutuny Food Pantry, 2 Webster Street, Natick, MA 01760.
