Of East Falmouth and formerly of Natick, passed away suddenly on Thursday April 22, 2021, he was 72.
Son of the late Patrick J. Connelly and Cecelia (Shea). Devoted father of Kristine Smith and her husband Chuck of Natick and Caroline Mruk and her husband Shamus of Beverly. Former Spouse of Kathleen Connelly. Brother of Mary Ferraro, Kathie Kilroy, Ann Nichols, Peggy Eldredge; Michael, Edward, and Mark Connelly. Proud grandfather of Charlie and Henry Smith, and Grace and James Mruk. Survived by many nieces and nephews.
Pat proudly served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He was honored to be a member of the elite Seawolves, the Navy’s highly decorated and only attack helicopter squadron.
Pat worked as a Mechanical Engineer for the Natick Army Labs for over 40 years. The majority of those years were spent working with the Tactical Shelters group, designing and implementing collapsible structures that are used across the U.S. military. He had an incredible gift for solving complex mechanical problems and secured multiple patents for his work over his career. Pat was so dedicated and driven by his job and lifelong coworkers that he continued to work even after two “retirements.”
A kind, humble and generous soul, Pat would do anything for anybody. He will be remembered by all who knew him for his gentle way and easy smile.
Pat loved to travel for work, buy presents and visit with his adored grandchildren, and ride his bike along the Shining Sea Bike Path.
