Paul D. Kennedy of Natick, MA, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024 after a sudden heart attack on Sunday evening, December 15, 2024. Paul was the son of the late Mildred (Lyman) and Stewart G. Kennedy of Wellesley where he grew up and attended the Wellesley School System, graduating from Wellesley High School in 1967.
Paul is survived by his twin sister, Beverly, also of Natick and his brother, Stewart Jr. (Gail), of Londonderry, NH (nephews Chirstopher and Michael). He is also survived by his niece, Trauté Dilanian, of Needham, great-nieces Nicole Dilanian, of Melrose, Michelle (Jenn) Dilanian Jones, of Arlington (great-great niece, Lydia) and a great-nephew Stephen Dilanian (Maureen) (great-great nephew, William) of Harwich Port, MA.
Paul is a U.S. Army Veteran, having served with honor and courage in the Vietnam War from May 1969 – May 1971. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Bronze Service Stars and he also received the Purple Heart.
Upon returning to the U.S., Paul was employed for several years with the Wellesley Water Department before becoming a Wellesley Firefighter for 32 years. Prior to retirement from the fire department, he had a second job at Foreign Motors West (which later became Mercedes of Natick) and he recently retired from there after 24 years this past fall.
Paul was an exceptional individual, always caring for others and he especially loved helping Julia Miller of Wellesley for 10 years on most Fridays – his day off. He has treasured memories of the Miller family, having grown up with the four children and he and his sister considered them their second family. Julia just passed away September 8, one week shy of turning 102! Most people know Paul from his sense of humor and wit- but he saw joy in life each day. Cars were his passion, and he loved travelling to Scottsdale annually to enjoy the shows with Ray Davis, his buddy since 2nd grade and also to catch up with Ronald Slamin – wonderful forever friends.
Special thanks to the heroic Natick Fire Department and Metrowest Medical Center E.R. and ICU floor – we are a lucky community to have such caring and amazing people there when we need them.
Paul’s burial will be private and scheduled for a later date. As Paul was a life-long animal lover, donations in his memory would be most appreciated and may be made to Stray Pets in Need of MA, Inc., P.O. Box 812143, Wellesley, MA 02482, NEADS Inc., P.O. Box 1100, 305 Redemption Rock Trails, Princeton, MA 01541, or to a charity of one’s choice
