Age 83 of Sherborn, formerly of Dover, passed away Saturday May 22, 2021.
She was the beloved wife of the late Raymond P. Shanahan, Sr.
Born with her twin brother Peter in Boston, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Elizabeth (Hagerty) Comiskey. Paula was raised in Dover and a graduate of Holy Cross Academy. She continued her education at Boston College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Prior to her marriage she was employed as a legal secretary in Boston.
Paula and Ray were married in Dover in 1964, the first couple to be wed in the newly constructed Most Precious Blood Church (MPB). They made their home in Dover where she was active with the PTA at Dover Elementary School and served on the MPB Parish Council. As their children grew, Paula obtained her real estate license and worked with Dover Country Properties and later Brown Realty in Dover. She returned to the workforce in 1989 as a Generalist for the Human Resources Department at the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Brighton. She remained with the hospital for 21 years.
She was a fan of local sports teams; particularly the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots but she saved her loudest cheering for her grandchildren at their sporting events and Irish Step Dancing.
Paula was the loving mother of Paula E. D’Ercole of Norton, Raymond P. Shanahan of Framingham, Elizabeth Ann MacDonald and husband Ronald of Ashland, and James P. Shanahan and wife Lisa of Sherborn. Devoted grandmother of Holly, Jake, Monica, Jillian, Christopher, Jennette, Allison, Stephen, Shane, Nicholas, and Layla. Sister of the late Robert Comiskey, and Peter Comiskey, her twin brother.
Paula’s funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, NATICK COMMON on Thursday May 27, 2021 at 9:30 AM, with a funeral Mass in Most Precious Blood Church, 30 Centre Street, Dover at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, Dover. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
