Richard “Rich” Evan Gustus, 58 of Dorchester, formerly of Natick, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5th after fighting a lengthy and courageous battle with MS.
Born in Milton, MA on October 27, 1965, the son of the late William and Edwina (Hannon) Gustus Sr. Rich graduated from Needham High School in 1984 and attended Curry College where he played on the team’s varsity basketball team. Rich was an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed cheering on the Celtics, Patriots, and Red Sox.
Since 1987, Rich has been a fixture on the stand-up comedy scene making numerous television appearances from the Comedy Central Show “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist” to “The Steve Katsos Show” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.” Rich is a respected comedian and has opened for such big names as Bill Maher, Kevin Nealon, and Dennis Leary. Apart from his work in TV and on the road, Rich has been a comedy teacher for the past 25 years, helping to spread the joy of comedy, instilling confidence, and sharpening the humor of his many students throughout the years.
Rich is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Patti Gustus. He is survived by his beloved brother, Chris Gustus and his wife Michelle, of Framingham; sister, Jennifer Gustus, of Plymouth; former spouse Christa Bean; niece and nephews, Emily, Michael, Matthew, and Steven Gustus.
Visiting hours at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., NATICK COMMON, on Thursday, August 15th from 5-7pm. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Services and interment will be private.
