Robert Black Obituary

Robert “Bob” Edward Black, 97, passed away peacefully on February 1st at home, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on November 29, 1927, to the late Charles and Bernice (Cameron) Black, Bob dedicated his life to service—both to his country and his community. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, embodying the values of duty and honor. After his military service, he embarked on a long and distinguished career as a firefighter, retiring from the Natick Fire Department after 30 years of brave and selfless service.

Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 64 years, Evelyn Marie (Seavey) Black, who preceded him in death eight years ago. Though her passing left a void in his heart, he found great joy in the love of his growing family. He is survived by his children: John Black of Oxford, James Black of Washington, NH, and Cindy Maguire and her husband, Paul, of Natick. He also leaves behind his grandchildren: Jillian, Jennifer, and Jonna Black; Shelby and Spencer Black; and Camryn Leiser and Collin Maguire, as well as his great-granddaughter, Fiona Leiser, they were the light of his life. Bob was the beloved brother of the late Phylis Bustin, Margery Haynes (Donald) and Albert Black (Dot), and brother-in-law to the late Harry Seavey (Junie). He was also a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Beyond his professional life, Bob was known for his kindness, sense of humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He cherished his daily time with friends, whether sharing coffee over breakfast, taking a walk at the Natick Mall to stay active, or enjoying a cold beer at the Natick Elks. Bob was always ready with a warm smile and a wise word.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 7th, at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick Common, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Interment will follow at Dell Park Cemetery in Natick. After the burial, a celebration of life will be held at the Natick Elks Members Lounge, 95 Speen Street, Natick, beginning at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Natick Elks Lodge, P.O. Box 381, Natick, MA 01760, or the Natick Firefighters Association, 22 East Central Street, Natick, MA 01760.

Bob lived a life of courage, generosity, and love. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those whose lives he touched.
