Roger True Obituary

Roger Bradford True, 79, of Fairfield, CT, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side on Friday, October 18, 2024, from squamous cell carcinoma.

Roger was born in Framingham, MA on April 12, 1945. He was the son of Charles Richard and Marjorie Brownell (Clapp) True. Roger attended Natick public schools. When young, he developed a love of music and enjoyed playing clarinet and tenor sax in the school band. In later years, he was involved in athletics playing on football, hockey, baseball, and track teams. He went on to Brown University where he majored in physics and was an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Scholar.

Upon graduation, Roger embarked on a long career in Fairfield County, CT independent schools at which he taught various courses in science and mathematics, coached hockey and baseball, and filled many administrative roles including Department Head, Athletic Director, Dean of Faculty, and Head of Upper School.

Roger loved the outdoors, nature, and the ocean, and he spent much of his youth on Lake Cochituate in Natick. Later, Roger and Anita, his wife of 55 years, spent most of those years together summering on their boat in Barnstable Harbor, Cape Cod, where Roger developed a lifelong interest in meteorology, oceanography, and marine biology.

In retirement, Roger was an avid reader and word puzzler. He enjoyed swimming, skating, hiking, boating, fishing, and attending sports events, especially Cape Cod League Baseball games.

Roger is survived by his beloved wife, Anita N. True of Fairfield, CT. He was the loving brother of Dr. Richard True (Sarah) of Sunnyvale, CA, and Rev. Cynthia E. Bagley, of Keene, NH. Roger is also survived by his beloved nieces and nephews: Katherine Bagley Maher (Colin), of Wallingford, CT, Christopher True, of Paso Robles, CA, Timothy Bagley (Melissa Pfaff), of Bow, NH, Matthew Bagley (Erin), of Thorpe, Surrey, UK, and Jonathan True, of Paso Robles, CA, as well as grandnieces and grandnephews and Anita’s nieces and nephew.
