Rosemarie Pauline Parmiani was born in San Francisco, California, on January 28, 1930, to Marie and Paul Parmiani. Initially, her family lived behind their grocery store on El Camino in Palo Alto; later, they moved to a peaceful neighborhood on Chimalas Drive in Palo Alto.
At the age of 15, she met the love of her life, Don Lien. They married in 1950 when she was 20 years old. In 1951, Don joined the United States Air Force, and they spent eight years in the Midwest during his service. After his military commitments, they returned to California and eventually settled in Los Altos Hills, where their family grew through the adoption of their daughter, Elisa, in 1967.
While raising Elisa, Rosemarie pursued her passion for sewing and became a Fashion Consultant for Doncaster, working alongside her friend Sun Cornell. She also cherished music and dancing, making sure Elisa attended ballroom dancing classes for three years.
Rosemarie and Don shared many adventures through their travels. They enjoyed visiting various destinations, with favorite places including Kawaii in the summer and Lake Tahoe or Yosemite in the fall. She loved relaxing outdoors, whether at the beach or by the pool, and patiently tolerated Don’s love for camping. Eventually, she was able to persuade him to stay at the Ahwahnee Hotel instead of sleeping on the ground during their outdoor trips. Starting around 1982, their travels expanded to Europe, with Salzburg, Austria, becoming a particularly special place for Rosemarie.
At age 87, Rosemarie and Don made the decision to move from California to Natick, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed a beautiful view of Dug Pond and the close proximity to Elisa, her husband Tom, and their only granddaughter, Rose.
In 2023, Rosemarie and Don transitioned to Residence of Valley Farm in Ashland for assisted living. After Don’s passing, the staff at Valley Farm became like extended family to Rosemarie, and she took comfort in sharing her love for music, dancing, and watching people with them. Rosemarie passed peacefully on Sunday, December 28th, at Residence of Valley Farm, surrounded by the compassionate care of staff and hospice team. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Valley Farm for their loving care of Rosemarie.
If you wish to honor Rosemarie’s memory with a donation, the family kindly requests that you consider supporting the memorial fund at Fisk Memorial United Methodist Church in Natick Massachusetts in honor of the congregation’s love and support for Rosemarie in recent years.
