Sheila Marie (Rourke) Coté

COTÉ, Sheila Marie (Rourke) of Natick, died peacefully on Wednesday, June 29, 2022.  Beloved wife of Warren Peter Coté, Jr.  Loving mother of Jennifer Coté of San Rafael, CA and Jonathan Coté of Harwichport. Devoted grandmother of Kyle and Boudewijn Coté. Dear sister of Maryellen Lamoureux of West Yarmouth, the late Gerald Rourke, and the late Jeanne Kane. Sister-in-law of Carol Rourke, Robert Kane, and the late Donald Lamoureux. Caring aunt to several nieces, nephews, and their children. Visiting hours will be held at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, Natick, on Monday, July 11th from 4-7 pm.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 E Central St., Natick, on Tuesday, July 12th at 10am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. 

Sheila was born in Arlington, MA on February 2, 1939 and grew up in Medford. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and friend who cared deeply about the happiness and well-being of others.  She enjoyed bird watching and spending quiet moments in nature, particularly the Charles River Falls in South Natick and the old St. Stephen's Priory in Dover.  Above all, she loved gathering with family and friends anywhere!

Sheila went to Matignon High School from 1952 to 1956.  Her circle of friends was far and wide and as one of her dear friends noted, to know Sheila was to love her.  She was a bubbly presence on the cheerleading squad and never missed a school dance.  After High School, Sheila attended Catherine Laboure School of Nursing in Boston, MA and received her diploma in 1959.  She was considered a fabulous nurse by all her colleagues and patients. During her career she served as an operating room nurse, school nurse and visiting nurse among other positions.  Later in her career she returned to school and received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology Counseling and Rehabilitation from Emmanuel College in 1987 and served as a Psych nurse for many years before ending her career caring for the nuns of The Elizabeth Seton Residence.

Sheila had a special gift of connecting with people and projecting a sense of warmth and caring. She was always present when talking with someone and wanted to learn about their lives. Her favorite quote, as noted in the Catherine Laboure yearbook was, "A stranger is a friend I have not yet met."  We would all benefit from living that motto as well as she did.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sheila may be made to your local Audubon Society, Heifer International or the Carmelites of Boston.
