Staff Sargent Allison "Al" Blaney Obituary

Staff Sargent Allison R. Blaney September 06,2022 NATICK: Al Blaney, age 97, died peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 06,2022. Born, Woodstock, New Brunswick Canada. At the age of 11 he came to the United States with his brother Harvey Blaney. At the age of 18 he joined the Army, as a Medic with the 326 medical unit attached to the 101st Airbourne. He made two combat jumps one on D-Day, landing behind enemy lines in Normandy,  the second in Operation Market Garden in Holland and  fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He went on to serve in the Korean war as an aerial reconnaissance. While station in Bangor Maine, he met Joyce, his future wife at a USO dance he met Joyce. They married on Jan 14,1950 after a 2 year courtship. After serving 20 years he retired from the Airforce in 1963 and settled in Natick in 1964. Over the years he had many jobs, from computer programmer to General Motors employee, finally retiring at the age of 90 from Adesa in Framingham. Joyce and Al enjoyed dancing and rarely missed an opportunity to hit a dance floor. A floor was not really necessary though, as evidenced by their traveling to and dancing at outdoor summer concerts for years. It was at these venues they became known as “The Dancers The couple also traveled extensively, including two trips to the Holy Land, and traveled to Normandy. Al visited Normandy on seven separate occasions to mark anniversaries of the D-Day invasion and attended special services at the Normandy American Cemetery in Colleville-Sur-Mer. In 2019, he was 1 of the 16 veterans to return back to Belgium for the 75th anniversary of the Battle of the Bugle and then in 2021 he joined 3 other veterans to go back once again to Normandy, Belgium and Germany thanks to The Riffle’s author and the donations from many.

He is survived by; their three children, Michael W. Blaney of Natick, Eric Blaney and his wife Ruth of Natick, and Belinda Blaney and her husband John Lea of Millville; five grandchildren, Christina, Shannon, Sarah, Kristoffer, and Emeritt: 3 great grandchildren Logan, Brina and Noah.

Visiting Hours will be held at the John Everett and Son Funeral Home on Thursday, September 15, 2022, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm. A graveside will take place on Friday, September 16, 2022, at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 10:45am.
