Sylvia Ada Kathleen (Hopkins) MacDonald, 84, of Natick, MA, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
Sylvia was born in Winthrop, MA, on September 17, 1938, to the late Cleveland and Vivian (Pierce) Hopkins of Woods Harbour and Bear Point, Nova Scotia.
She is survived by her husband, Chet C. MacDonald, Jr., who would leave her daily notes to “Blue Eyes.” Sylvia and Chet moved to Natick, where they lived for many years. Sylvia is predeceased by her brother Jack (Janet) of Andover and recently deceased brother Les (late wife Jane) of Lynnfield. She leaves behind her sisters Pauline Redding (husband Robert) of Revere and Karen Munson (late husband Paul) of Richmond, Virginia. Sylvia was a devoted and loving mother to her three children, John (wife Sary) of Attleboro, Karin Mailhiot (husband Joe) of Millis and Jeffrey of Natick. She was a loving Grandmother to Adam Newell (wife Kim), Cameron Chang, Christopher MacDonald, Destiny Ceceri (husband Chris), and Peter Vong (wife Lauren). In addition, she leaves behind eight Greatgrandchildren Olivia, Gianni, Vincent, Nico, Josie, and Evelyn.
Sylvia attended Christian High School. She was a woman of great character and strength and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, hosting many family Christmas celebrations. Sylvia loved the backyard cookouts with her many friends from Natick on High Street. One of Sylvia's favorite expressions was "it is what it is." Sylvia was an absolutely beautiful and classy lady who never complained about all the pain she endured. Her children would think of their Mom as a lady of unwitting strength. Many who knew her described Sylvia simply as an angel.
Donations may be made to The Development Office, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Dr. Michael E. Weinblatt Research Fund, 75 Francis Street, Boston, MA 02115.
Rest in peace, Blue Eyes, Mom and Nanny.
