Valerie Rooney Obituary

Valerie Ann (Campana) Rooney of Natick passed away on December 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of Kevin Rooney for 47 years. The devoted mother of Erin Dunn and her husband Richard of Holliston, Alyssa Rooney and her partner Scott Carty of Los Angeles, CA and Kevin Rooney of Ashland. Loving grandmother to her grandson James Dunn. Daughter of Rita (Ralli) Campana and the late John Campana. Sister of Danny Campana of Sebring, FL, Joani Feeley and her husband Bob of Natick, John Campana and his wife Vanessa of Northborough. Valerie is also survived by many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Valerie was raised in Natick and was a 1968 graduate of Natick High School. Always known for her eye-catching sense of style, she was voted “Most Collegiate” in her high school yearbook. Valerie and Kevin raised the family in their hometown where she was a fun-loving friend and second mom to all the neighborhood kids.  A “people person” she shared her talents with others … cooking, quilting, gardening, jewelry making.  Even on her toughest days she made us feel better.

Valerie held many positions in her working years at Bennett-Hemenway School. She supervised an after-school program, was a popular lunchroom monitor and eventually an administrative assistant known for her unwavering optimism and bright spirit. Valerie was a favorite among the students, parents and faculty in a job she treasured.

Summers with Kevin and the family were spent on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire entertaining, boating, hiking, hanging out with friends and, of course, maintaining her gorgeous gardens. Life was good.

Valerie was always there when we needed her most, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance. We will remember her most for her kindness to others and her deep love for her family. She will live in our hearts forever.
