Victoria E. Hill (Sarkisian), 97, of Melrose, passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, following a brief illness.
Born in Somerville, MA on May 20, 1927, she was the beloved daughter of the late Samuel K. and Emily (Dearby) Sarkisian who had immigrated from Armenia during the Armenian Holocaust. She and her four sisters grew up in Somerville in a vibrant Armenian household that was rich in culture. Her father shared with her a deep faith in God and the highlight of her week was singing in her church chorus.
Vicky relocated to Watertown, MA, after marrying the late Larry G. Visco where she raised her family. When her children started school, she started working part time for Unitrode in Watertown where she was employed for over 20 years. Vicky lived life to the fullest. Her absolute favorite thing to do was spend time with family and she never missed a single event in their lives or a get together. At least once during every gathering she would say, “I love my family.” She enjoyed getting dressed up to go ballroom dancing, taking long walks, and traveling with family and friends. In her later years, when we couldn’t get in touch with her we knew she had taken the bus to the casino. She loved going out shopping, out to lunch, or getting her hair done with her daughter, Dottie, every week. She was also tough as nails, disciplined, and fiercely determined - a true embodiment of strength. When she would give advice, we would call her “Judge Judy”; there was no candy coating and the standards were high for doing the right thing. She deepened her faith over the years and embraced every opportunity to express gratitude for even the smallest blessings. Victoria was predeceased by her husband, Harold Hill in 1981; her daughter, Linda Viscione in 2023, son-in-law, Robert Hyde, in 2023, and her sisters, Florence Cunningham, Ruby Sarkisian, and Marion Kilroy.
She was the beloved mother of Dorothy Hyde, of Natick, and Larry Visco and his wife Laila, of Acton. Victoria was a doting grandmother to Heidi Manago and her husband Domenico, of Ponte Verda, FL, Jason Hartelius and his wife Kristie, of Shrewsbury, Peter Hartelius and his wife Juliana, of Wakefield, Keith Viscione and his wife Kendra, of Peabody, Kelly O’Connor, of Danvers, Joseph Viscione, of Salem, and Victor Visco, of Asheville, NC. Loving great-grandmother to Domenico Manago, of Jacksonville, FL, Andrew Hartelius, of Shrewsbury, Lily Manago, of Tempe, AZ, Benjamin Hartelius, of Shrewsbury, Madison Hartelius, of Shrewsbury, Lucy Manago, of Ponte Verda, FL, Rocco Manago of Ponte Verda, FL, Michael Viscione, of Peabody, Hailey O’Connor, of Danvers, Dahlia Hartelius, of Wakefield, Temperance Viscione, of Salem, and Harrison Hartelius, of Wakefield.
