Walter Horning Obituary

Died Tuesday April 27, 2021. Walter died peacefully at home with his Wife Jacqueline and son Timothy by his side. He was born in Natick, the son of Walter and Bridget (Doherty) Horning. He is survived by his wife Jacqueline(Donovan) a son Timothy and his wife Heather and grandaughter Victoria of North Carolina. His sister-in-law Donalee Kelly and her husband Don, his brother-in-law Malcolm Crone and his sister-in-law Noreen Donovan and many nieces and nephews.He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Bridget (Doherty) Horning. His brothers John and Peter Horning. His brothers-in-laws, John, James, Paul, Martin Donovan and their wives, Ginger, Marie, and Elsie, Sisters-in-law Drusilla Pelkey and Helen Crone. He graduated from Natick High School class of 1955. He enlisted in the Air Force and spent 4 years. He was discharged and went to work for Dennison. He joined the Natick Police in 1963, where he spent 36 years. He held a rank of Sergeant. He also graduated with high honors from Northeastern University with a BS in Criminal Justice. Walter was connected with town of Natick as President of the Natick Lions club a coach of winning sports teams, the President of D.A.R.E. in Massachusetts, and teaching E.M.T. First Aid and CPR. 

August 16 of 1979 Walter was awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic Civilian Service from the Department of the Army for training command employees CPR. 

He loved fishing and the many hours on Lake Cochituate with Paul, Rod, and Tyler. 

At the deceased request there will be no visiting hours and burial will be private. All donations to the American Heart Association 300 5th Ave Waltham, MA 02451 in Walter's name. Thank you, to all first responders that helped with Walter's care: Good Shepard Hospice, Natick/Walpole visiting nurse's association, Metrowest medical center, Mary Anne Morse rehabilitation, and the Natick Fire and Police dept.
