William "Billy" Dempsey Obituary

William Francis Dempsey (Billy), 84, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at home in Natick surrounded by his family.

Billy was born March 13, 1940, in Cambridge, MA, and graduated from Revere High School. Youngest son of Louis and Catherine (Coffey) Dempsey. Predeceased by brothers Neil, Dan, Jack Dempsey, and sister Mary Dempsey Holian. Beloved husband of Kathy (Sennott) Dempsey, married for 57 years.

Losing his parents as a child only fueled his love for family. This devotion to his family is his legacy. Bill loved his family, his community, and his cat Mookie. Billy is survived by his four children: Michael Dempsey, and his children Mary and Colin; Chrissy Dempsey Poulack, her husband Jim, their children, Isabelle, Jacqui and Melina; Tim and Amy Dempsey, their children, Jack, Kaitlyn, Kiera and James; Katy Dempsey Palmer, her husband Ed, and her son Christopher William Yonuss. Bill was the favorite uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Billy attended Northeastern University and served in the US Army during the Korean War. Member of the Natick Elks and the Revere Moose. Retired after 30 years from Wonder Bread as a route salesman and proud member of the Teamsters Union. Billy's passions included driving his school bus, videography, and baseball. His devotion to these passions ignited memorable relationships and town-wide recognition. Most well-known around Natick as "Mr. D" the bus driver for schools and sports teams, recognized for his Halloween costumes and a must stop house for trick-or-treating to receive a Hostess cupcake; proud of his years coaching Natick Senior Babe Ruth, dedicated to making every player feel part of the team; and videographer, granting youth athletes the opportunity to feel like a star, both on the field or with a microphone in hand, and viewing the games on local cable TV through Pegasus. His joy and enthusiasm was infectious, and will be remembered by his family, friends, and community.

A wake will be held on Monday, August 26 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St., Natick. The funeral Mass will take place on Tuesday, August 27 at 10:00 am at St. Patrick Church. Following the Mass, there will be a burial at St. Patrick's Cemetery, followed by a gathering at Natick Elks.
